The published Indian prevalence data we could verify comes from a study of dogs in Assam and Mizoram, which found roughly 11% to 18% positive depending on the diagnostic method used, with stray dogs more affected than pets. We are not going to convert that into a Delhi figure, because we do not have one, and inventing a local statistic would be worse than useless. What is well established is that the transmitting mosquitoes are present, and that Defence Colony has a documented standing-water problem. That is enough to make prevention a sensible conversation with your vet — not a reason to be alarmed.
What to actually do
- Raise heartworm prevention at your first vet visit, before the puppy’s first monsoon rather than during it.

- Ask whether it should run year-round in your conditions, rather than only in the obvious mosquito months.
